REPORTS

The board received the following reports:

An update on construction projects across the district. This included major projects, such as the rebuilding of Highland and West High Schools, as well as smaller projects like roof replacements, parking lot resurfacing, athletic field upgrades, and irrigation repairs. Stay informed about district construction projects on our website. (Watch on YouTube.)
Information about recent federal actions that have delayed several federal grants. Our Business Administrator is hopeful the funds will be released. In the meantime, the district has been strategic in handling its finances and has a healthy reserve fund that could cover the missing grant money for the 2025-26 school year without impacts on students or staff. DISCUSSIONS

The board discussed the following topics:

A review of the goals and objectives for the Strategic Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and a review of new tracking tools to measure progress. The SPSA is a dynamic five-year plan that outlines clear goals to ensure every student’s academic success and to provide support in preparing for life after high school. The board will continue to review updates to the SPSA in future meetings. (Watch on YouTube.)
A proposal to create different types of high school diplomas: a basic diploma for students who meet the minimum graduation requirements, a standard diploma for those who earn additional credits, and, possibly, an honors diploma. A proposal to finalize the process and criteria for the Board’s self-evaluation, which will take place during the Board retreat on August 2, 2025. (Watch on YouTube.)
Next steps for determining the future use of closed school buildings and campuses. The board directed district leadership to further review potential district needs for the closed schools, including gathering feedback from district employees. (Watch on YouTube.)

ACTION

The board approved the Superintendent’s contract for the period of July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027. (Superintendent contracts are generally renewed every two years.) (Watch on YouTube.)
