We would like to inform you about the Dilworth School Community Council (SCC) and an important vote that you will be participating in. The Dilworth SCC is a group of parents, teachers, and community members who work together to improve the quality of education for our students. The SCC plays a vital role in decision-making and advocating for our school. Cast Your Vote Your vote counts. There are currently four open seats for the 2025-2027 SCC term and we have five declared candidates; Abbie Carter Smith, Adrianne Johnson, Tess Seare, and former serving SCC Micki Ahrens, Amy Dobbs and Megan Lopez. Per Utah legislation, only parents/guardians of Dilworth students may vote for parent positions on the SCC. You may only vote once. Here is the link to cast your vote. Please note, All votes are anonymous and considered a secret ballot. Voting will open today September 2nd to Friday September 12th at 5 pm MST. |

Classroom Lessons This month, I am teaching students about recognizing and responding to bullying. I teach students that there are three parts to bullying: purpose (bullying is intentional), pattern (it happens more than once or every once in a while), and power (there is unequal power). I want students to know that if they witness or experience bullying, it’s important that they tell a grownup. If for any reason students feel nervous to make a report, there is an anonymous option available through all Utah schools. The SafeUT app serves many valuable functions. One is the ability to submit anonymous tips to schools. Check out this website for more information about this function, as well as the ability to communicate with a crisis counselor through text or phone call: safe ut studentshttps://safeut.org/students

Culture Club We are continuing with our culture club this year! During lunch recess on Tuesdays, 4th – 6th grade students can get together to learn and share games and traditions from different cultures. Last year we wrote our names in braille, learned about New Year’s celebrations around the world, created cherry blossoms for the cherry blossom festival and more. The group is open to anyone that would like to participate, and students don’t have to commit to coming every week. If you know a game, language, or craft from another culture that you would like to share with us, we love to have guest presenters. If you would not like your child to participate, please contact me: lindsay.verhaaren@slcschools.org.

This year, we do not have any buses arriving or departing; therefore, you can use the left lane in the south parking lot to drop off students. We will be painting this curb green to indicate this change. Below is the map of drop off and pick up procedures.
*****Remember you can always park across the street in the church parking lot and walk your child to the back field to line up for their classes. *****Student Safety Patrol will have flags and vests. Please make sure to follow their instructions to keep everyone safe. |

Breakfast opens at 8:25 AM. Students eating breakfast will enter the building through the cafeteria located on the North side of the building. Breakfast is served until 8:45 AM. All other students enter the building at 8:40 AM, escorted by their teacher, from the back of the building near the fields and playground. Anyone who arrives to school after the 8:45 AM tardy bell should report to the front office. |
