The Salt Lake City School District Board of Education discussed board norms, which are the expectations for how board members work with fellow board members, the superintendent, and district staff as they carry out their responsibilities. The board received the following report:

A monthly update on construction projects around the district. This included information about the recent open house events for the rebuilds of Highland and West High Schools, as well as updates on the Rosslyn Heights Sports Complex, roof replacements, athletic field upgrades, and more. DISCUSSIONS

The board discussed the following topics:

The newest edits to the Strategic Plan for Student Success. Members gave feedback and asked district leaders to bring the plan back for more review. (Watch on YouTube)
Information about high school graduation diploma options. The board is considering requiring more credits to graduate and/or possibly creating a “diploma of distinction” that could also require a minimum GPA. They also discussed gathering feedback from students and families and asked the district to move forward with gathering this input. (Watch on YouTube)
With recent changes in board membership, leaders reviewed board committee assignments and made adjustments. This was moved to the action agenda. (Watch on YouTube)
A small property swap with Salt Lake County near the Beardsley site (where Auxiliary Services offices are located). This would fix a property line issue, improve drainage by the Jordan River, and make access easier. This item was moved to the action agenda. (Watch on YouTube)
An update on the action the district has taken to review our immediate district needs and how our current unused schools may meet those needs. As part of that action, district executive directors each conducted an assessment of whether their programs had a need for space. The board discussed the next steps in the G-5 policy about determining uses for unused school sites and moved this issue to the action agenda. (Watch on YouTube)

An agreement with Salt Lake County to swap property near the district offices on Beardsley Place.
Conducting feasibility studies and real estate reviews for Mary W. Jackson, Hawthorne, and Riley Elementary Schools.
