Welcome Back to Dilworth! Be sure to view the unveiling of the new Dragon Readers in the Library at Back to School Night this coming Thursday, August 24th.

 

Library classes begin August 28th:

  • The Essential Element Class and First Graders come to the library on Mondays.
  • Third and Second Graders come to the library on Tuesdays.
  • Fifth and Sixth Graders come to the library on Wednesdays.
  • Fourth and Kindergarteners come to the library on Thursdays.

Students are welcome to come to the library either 15 minutes before school or after school for a quick drop off and check out when finished with their library book

Below is this year's list of award-winning, Battle Books: If you have a student who is entering 4th- 6th grades this coming year, please consider reading these books with your student! These are award winning books in various genres. Students in 4th, 5th, & 6th, are invited, monthly, to read & discuss books culminating in a school & then District competition. You can locate these books on SORA or at the public library, too!

  • The Dilworth Library is now open 15 minutes before and after school for a quick check in/out by students. Students will need to enter by way of the cafeteria in the morning and walk thru the halls. Hours: Open at 8:30 a.m.; Closed by 3:30 p.m. Welcome back!

    Where & When can I return a book to the Dilworth Library? Before or after school or any time you are walking by the Library, you may drop off a book on the RETURN Cart.

    How can I know what books are available? Click on the Destiny BOOK Catalog to the right. Check out over 15,000 books available to students!

    Library Lessons:

    Library lessons each have an objective tied to our state Library Media Standards.

    Quoted from the Utah State Board of Education:

    “The school library program is critical to students' academic and personal success. The necessary skills for college and career ready students include literacy in a wide range of digital, visual, and textual formats. Effective school library media programs enable students to develop critical thinking skills to access, evaluate, synthesize, and apply information; make informed decisions; build a knowledge base; and value reading.

    These Utah Standards for Library Media were created by certified teacher librarians to support the integration of information literacy and media skills across the curriculum. They are intended to be taught, not in isolation, but in collaboration with classroom teachers. This collaboration will deepen student learning, foster independent reading, develop reading stamina, build task resiliency, strengthen text-dependent writing, and increase the students’ information literacy.

    The standards are organized into three clusters:

    1. Reading Engagement

    2. Research and Information

    3. Media Literacy

  • The Accelerated Reader Program has been purchased for our students this year. As a faculty, we have noticed a marked decline in students’ reading abilities, desire to read, & motivation to read books. This is being addressed through our S.I.P. and the return to the Accelerated Reader Program which is a motivational program helping students to become responsible for their own reading and journey to becoming better readers each day. Students are able to log on and use the program here at school, only. Your child’s teacher will communicate how they will be using the program in their classroom.

    BATTLE of the Books – During Library classes of 4th, 5th, & 6th grade students, the Battle Books will be shared & discussed. Students are encouraged to read as many of the 20 as they can to then be able to participate in the school and then District competition. 

    Thank you to our PTA for their support of this program in the form of money to purchase extra copies of the Battle books so all students who want to read these books, have access to them.

    SORA – SORA is an online platform with books available for Salt Lake Students. Please download the app. This is a great way for students to read on the go or with a device, at home 24/7!  Enjoy!

Salt Lake City School LIBRARY Mission Statement

The mission of the Library Learning Center is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas. A strong Library Learning Center program, administered by a certified Library Technology Teacher, positively impacts student achievement. The Library Technology Teacher is a certified teacher, instructional partner, information specialist and program coordinator & curator of the collection.
